Facebook Gaming and Greenlit Content are supporting the World Health Organization’s Play Apart Together initiative through a series of weekly charity tournaments. Tournaments will feature pro athletes and influencers competing in a variety of games, with the winner choosing their charity of choice to support COVID-19 relief efforts.

The Play Apart Together tournaments will happen each week on Thursday evening, exclusively streamed via Facebook Gaming. using their recently launched tournament feature. Fans can track standings and brackets with celebrities throughout the sports and gaming world, including Dwight Howard, Christian McCaffrey, Joe Burrow, Alex Bergman, Jen Selter, and Fatal1ty.

Winning a tournament will award $25,000 to a charity chosen by the winner. Fans and viewers are also encouraged to donate to Facebook’s COVID-19 Fundraiser for the World Health Organization, which will match up to $10 million in funding. Currently the fundraiser is sitting at just under $6 million from over 200,000 donations.

The first week is going on right now, with the first game as – you guessed it, Fortnite. Other tournament games will include Rocket League, NBA 2K20, and FIFA 20. The tournaments are sponsored by State Farm and Alienware.

The World Health Organization’s Play Apart Together initiative is aimed at helping people stay home and stay informed about the pandemic through gaming.
