During the PAX East 2019 convention in Boston, MA, Gearbox took to the main stage to formally announce Borderlands 3. We didn’t get a release date, platforms, or any details about the game other than the trailer. But the trailer is quite nice, and a rewarding treat for fans of the co-op shooter looter franchise. BRICK SAX SOLO!

The last primary Borderlands game, the Pre-Sequel, was developed by 2K Australia and released in 2014.

You can watch the Borderlands 3 trailer above, or the full hour long Gearbox stream below (Gearbox panel begins around 49:00).

Borderlands 3 was the big news. But Gearbox had a number of announcements during the presentation.

In related Borderlands news, Gearbox announced a remaster of the original Borderlands. Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition includes the 2009 shooter and all released DLC, as well as adding many new features found later in the series, such as a minimap, character skins, and four player split-screen. It’s coming April 3 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. If you own the original Borderlands on Steam, you’ll receive the Game of the Year edition as a free update.

April 3 will also update Borderlands: The Handsome Collection (as well as Borderlands 2 and the Pre-Sequel) with support for Ultra HD (4K) and HDR support for PlayStation Pro and Xbox One X. The Ultra HD texture pack will arrive as a free update.

The panel also announced two new games under Gearbox Publishing. Trover Saves the Universe is a comedic animated adventure from Justin Roiland, of Rick and Morty fame. It’s out May 31 for PlayStation 4 and June 4 to PC (Epic Games Store, Steam).

Risk of Rain 2 was the other big announcement from Gearbox Publishing. The sequel to the co-op roguelike adventure transitions from 2D pixel art into a fully 3D world. Surprsiingly the game is also available now via Steam Early Access on PC. If you buy it before March 30 at 12 pm Pacific/3 pm Eastern, you’ll get another copy free that you can gift to a friend. The Steam page mentions it will be in Early Access for about a year, and the price will increase when it fully launches.

More details should arrive on Borderlands 3, beginning on April 3. Borderlands 3 has not yet been rated, but the series has always garnered an M for Mature rating.
