Square Enix and DONTNOD Entertainment have announced the release date for Episode 1 of Life is Strange 2. The first episode will launch September 27 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

Life is Strange 2 was strangely (sorry) absent from E3, despite Square Enix even hosting their own mini press event. Instead they announced The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit, another narrative adventure that takes place in the same universe.

We now know that Captain Spirit will serve as a prequel and introduction that links to Life is Strange 2. It tells the story of Chris, an imaginative boy who lives with his father following the death of his mother. It’s set three years after the original Life is Strange.

The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit will releasing later today on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. It’s completely free to download and play.

Nothing else has been announced or revealed for Life is Strange 2. Details will be revealed in the coming weeks and months leading up to the fall release.

Last year Square Enix published a 3-episode prequel, Life is Strange: Before the Storm, with developer Deck Nine. Despite using a different developer, the prequel was generally well received.

The original Life is Strange has been praised for its emotional storytelling, mature themes, and ability to manipulate time. It’s part of the narrative adventure genre along with Gone Home, Heavy Rain, and Telltale’s many licensed episodic series.

Life is Strange 2 will consist of five episodes. The first episode will launch on September 27.
