Activision Blizzard’s hero shooter Overwatch is turning two years old this week, and remains one of the most popular online shooters in gaming. A special three week in-game anniversary celebration has begun, with new loot and a new map.
This weekend you can download and play Overwatch for free. A new Legendary Edition is available if you’re ready to jump on board.
The in-game anniversary event runs through June 12. It will include over 50 new items, including eight legendary skins and new dance emotes for the newest heroes, like Brigitte. Seasonal cosmetic items from last year’s first anniversary event will also be returning.
The anniversary event will also officially add the Deathmatch map, Petra. Petra is set amongst the cavernous desert ruins of Jordan.
Logging in during the anniversary event will instantly net you one Legendary Anniversary loot box, which guarantees one Legendary piece of loot. You’ll receive another bonus Legendary box if you purchase the 50 loot box bundle.
This weekend you’ll be able to play Overwatch free, from May 25 – 29. For PlayStation players, you won’t even need a PlayStation Plus account to play online during the free weekend.
A new Legendary Edition has also been announced. The Overwatch: Legendary Edition includes 15 skins, including five epic and five legendary. It also includes in-game goodies for other Blizzard games, such as Mercy’s Wings in Diablo 3 and the Tracer hero in Heroes of the Storm.
Both the Legendary Edition ($39) and the Standard Edition ($19) are 50% off until June 5. The anniversary event ends June 12.
