Twenty-two years ago to the day, the original Pokémon Game Boy games, Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green, were released in Japan. Ever year the Pokémon Company celebrates February 27 as Pokémon Day. This year you can celebrate with limited Snapchat Lenses, the latest Pokémon film, and a unique Pikachu in Pokémon GO.
“Pokémon Day is not only a celebration of the franchise, but also of Pokémon’s incredible fan community,” said J.C. Smith, senior director of marketing for The Pokémon Company. “This year we’re offering social media activations and more across the brand to help Trainers around the world express their love of all things Pokémon.”
To celebrate Pokémon Day 2018, you can enjoy the following new or limited goodies:
Pokémon GO
A special purple hat-wearing Pikachu has been spotted in Pokémon GO. This Pikachu awards triple the Stardust when caught, and knows the move Present. It’s only available until 1 pm Pacific/4 pm Eastern on February 28.
Snapchat Lenses
For a limited time you can adorn your pictures on Snapchat with three new lenses featuring the starter Pokémon from the Kanto region. The three Pokémon will be rolled out one at a time, beginning with Bulbasaur, then Charmander, then Squirtle.
Pokémon the Movie
The latest Pokémon feature film, Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You!, has been added to Pokémon TV. You can also watch the movie via the app on iOS and Android.
Pikachu Talk
Pikachu Talk is a new app built for Amazon Alexa and Google Home that let’s you talk with the famous electric mouse Pokémon.
Charizard Gallery Figure DX
The new Charizard figure is the first in a new line of deluxe figures. Note that this is not an amiibo, just a spiffy figurine.
