Update v258 has arrived for dinosaur survival game ARK: Survival Evolved. The big update adds more achievements, gas-powered motorboats, more creatures, and most importantly an interactive toilet.

Of all their fancy sci-fi advances the survivors of the Island had yet to invent indoor plumbing, until now. Anyone who has played ARK for more than a few minutes discovers that the player character will noisily use the bathroom whether they want them to or not. With the toilet, you can interact with it when the time is right to receive a special buff that grants an experience boost. You did it!

Here is the full list of all the new content and features included in the v258 patch for ARK: Survival Evolved:

  • New Weapon: Harpoon Gun
  • New Vehicle: Gas-powered Motorboat
  • New Structure: Interactive Toilet
  • Five New Creatures
  • Two New Hairstyles
  • More Explorer Notes
  • More UI Overhauls
  • Direwolf Pack Feature
  • Primitive Plus Update (Total Conversion Mod)
  • Memory reductions, texture memory & mesh optimization.
  • Greater Achievement set (various cosmetics, hairstyles, & emotes unlocked as you get Achievements)

Haenodon Dirus is a small hyena-like predator. They’re too small to ride but can be tamed as pets and pack animals. They can recover health by consuming carrion.

The slow, peaceful Megatherium Formipavor is one of the larger herbivores on the island. These normally docile creatures feed on insects. They’re skilled at killing insects while leaving the chitin intact. Could be a useful ally when going on a bug hunt.

The venomous Megalania Muruspede is a giant lizard who lives in caves. Its poison is slow but will drain strength and health until cured by a rare antidote. Megalania isn’t the most powerful mount but it is capable of climbing walls, mountains, and barricades, making it a useful infiltrator.

Hesperornis Avenatantes is an odd-looking bird who stays near rivers and lakes to feed on fish. It can be captured for its eggs. It will rarely produce a golden egg which greatly increases the rate of taming creatures.

Yutyrannus Saevus looks like a feathered Tyrannosaurus. It comes with some unique abilities tied to its roar. Its scream will cause most creatures to turn tail and flee. A domesticated Yutyrannus can develop a more supportive Battle-Cry feature. The Battle-Cry  can protect your allies from hostile fear-screams. It can also summon wild Carnotaurus  to its aid. We need more teeth!

ARK: Survival Evolved is currently on sale on Steam for 68% off ($9.59). The first expansion, Scorched Earth, is also on sale for 68% off ($6.39). The sale ends June 5.
