Given the popularity of 2014 co-op shooter Destiny, a sequel was inevitable. Destiny 2 was announced today with a single teaser image by the official Destiny twitter account. No further information was given.

The picture seems to depict Earth’s last city burning from destruction. Neither publisher Activision nor developer Bungie are being chummy with any details.
Rumors have surrounded the anticipated sequel, including a poster leak that points to a September 2017 launch. Activision has previously confirmed that the sequel existed and would be released this Fall.

The Age of Triumph is a fitting end to the first game, bringing back many iconic raids and items, as well as new gear. It will also include the largest Record Book of any live event, with pages of new challenges to complete.
Created by the original Halo developers, Destiny was the biggest new franchise launch when it released in 2014. Bungie has continuously supported the cooperative shooter through post-launch updates and paid expansion packs.
Destiny received a major 2.0 overhaul with the second expansion, The Taken King, in 2015, which was very well received by fans. The most recent was Destiny: Rise of Iron in September 2016. Bungie has stated that the original game will remain online and be continually supported with updates and patches.
Despite its popularity, Destiny is actually one of the most divisive games among both fans and critics. Its cooperative gameplay and shooting mechanics were generally praised, but poor story elements and manipulative loot-based gameplay left many feeling cold.
