One of this Fall’s biggest releases is getting some big updates in the coming weeks. Dishonored 2’s first free update (simply titled Game Update 1) is coming Monday, December 19. It’s available right now as a beta patch for PC.

Among various fixes and improvements the update adds a unique New Game Plus mode. Once you have completed the game with either Corvo or Emily, you can start again with either character – this time armed with the abilities of both. You’ll also have access to all the Bonecharms and Runes you’ve collected on your previous run. This should give a huge power boost and allow you to experiment with all new ways to kill (or incapacitate).

“Dishonored players have asked for it, so now New Game Plus is here for Dishonored 2,” said Harvey Smith, creative director at Arkane Studios. “If you’ve ever wanted to make higher-powered characters, now’s your chance. If you’ve wanted to play Emily Kaldwin with Possession or Devouring Swarm, or Corvo Attano with Domino, now you can. We’ve been having fun with it here at Arkane Studios, and we hope you will too.”

The news also teased out the second update. It’s titled – you guessed it, Game Update 2. It will arrive sometime in January and include two much asked for features: Mission Select, and Custom Difficulty Settings.

Mission Select, that is the ability to jump into (or restart) individual missions, was a sorely lacking feature in Dishonored 2. It was a major sticking point in Nicole’s review. Ultimately she wrote that the game was “not good enough to make me overlook the frustrations.”
