Scalebound was first announced at the Microsoft E3 2014 press conference. We had only a spiffy cinematic trailer to go by. The game was conspicuously absent from last year’s E3. This year we finally got a look at a full gameplay demo of this action-RPG. Scalebound is being developed by Platinum Games, creators of Bayonetta, Star Fox Zero, and Transformers: Devastation.

The demo actually shows off the four player co-op. Players can join each other’s games, bringing their own load-outs of Drew and his customizable dragon buddy Thuban. Drew has a variety of weapons and attacks, from various swords to bow and arrow, as well as morphing into a bestial half-dragon form.

The five minute demo showed off one of the world’s many giant monster inhabitants, a gigantic tentacled crab-thing. Drew could ride his dragon to gain a better vantage point, and direct Thuban to attack weak points. The combat is very action-oriented, requiring quick movements and attack combinations as you flesh out weak points and avoid enemy attacks.

Scalebound still doesn’t have a release date, but is currently expected in 2017 for Xbox One and Windows PC. Scalebound will also take advantage of the Xbox Play Anywhere program, letting you purchase one digital copy for both Xbox and PC.
