ARK: Survival Evolved welcomes its second expansion today. Aberration features five new underground biomes along with new creatures, items, and storyline. It’s available today for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC for $19.99 or as part of the season pass.

The malfunctioning ARK features numerous environmental hazards, such as earthquakes, gas leaks, and Element chambers. The world of Aberration has been damaged, leading to a scorched, radioactive sun. Life has been mutated and driven underground. New creatures include the camouflaging Rock Drake, the large Cave Crustacean, and the Reaper Queen, who impregnates her enemies to spawn her children. New Element-infused humanoids called Nameless lurk in the darkness like Morlocks.

Over 50 items are available for crafting, including gliding wingsuits and ziplines to traverse the massive underground caverns. Advanced engrams include flashbangs, batteries, glowsticks, and hazmat outfits.

ARK’s first expansion pack, Scorched, featured a fantastical desert land. Studio Wildcard ran into some controversy as folks were not happy that it was released as a paid expansion last year while the game itself was still in Early Access.

ARK: Survival Evolved officially left Early Access in August of this year. The season pass is priced at $44.99. It includes Scorched, Aberration, and a as yet-unannounced third expansion pack. All the expansions have been priced at $19.99.

ARK: Survival Evolved has been rated T for Teen.
