Did Konami Make Hideo Kojima Skip The Game Awards?

Last night at The Game Awards, announcer Geoff Keighley said that Hideo Kojima, a video game designer known for the Metal Gear Solid games, would not be appearing.  He seemed pretty upset. According to Keighley, Kojima was prevented from attending by his possibly soon-to-be former employer, Konami. (Konami maintains that Kojima is still an employee, despite evidence indicating that at very least, things are no longer amicable between the two.) Read More

New Data Pack for Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 Coming December 3

Konami announced that Data Pack 2 for Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 will be released on December 3. The update will correct errors in team rosters, taking into account summer player transfers that never went into effect in the offline mode of the game. (Datapack 1 also did not address the issue.)

Data Pack 2 will also add new content; the Maracanã Stadium in Brazil, team kits for Germany, Italy, and Spain’s national teams,  51 more players including Fernando Torres, Aleksandar Mitrović, and Kevin De Bruyne, and finally two new balls and eight new pairs of shoes are all new additions to PES 2016.

The game’s lobby will also be updated to facilitate players starting matches with their friends.

Konami has warned that the update may erase edit data if you have made changes to the soccer players’ faces, hairstyle, or physique. The Data Pack will also be removing players who have become free agents, such as Xavi, Steven Gerrard, and Frank Lampard.

If you already have PES 2016, you’ll be rewarded with free DLC in the future, to make up for the failure to launch with updated rosters. The UEFA Euro 2016 DLC, which comes out in summer of 2016, will be free.

Also coming up in December is a free-to-play version of PES 2016, with seven teams which you can play in Exhibition Mode or in Training. It also includes myClub, which lets you act as manager of your team.

PES 2016 is available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and Windows PC.

Guillermo Del Toro Swears Off Game Development

Tragedy strikes: video games have lost Guillermo Del Toro, maybe forever.

The legendary director of films like Pan’s Labyrinth and Pacific Rim has sworn off game development after a string of cancelled releases. It sounds like he’s got a sense of humor about it though. As he told Shacknews, “I have proven to be the albatross of video games.

“I joined THQ, and THQ goes broke. I join Kojima, and Kojima leaves Konami. I have decided, in order not to destroy anyone else’s life, I have decided I will never again get involved in video games. Otherwise, I’ll join someone and his house will explode, or something.” Read More
