In celebration of the first SteamWorld game turning ten, developer Image & Form have partnered with Super Rare Games to produce two limited physical editions for SteamWorld Dig and SteamWorld…
Available On: Switch, PC (Steam, May 31)
Over the last several years, Swedish indie developers Image & Form Games have been quietly and expertly expanding their colorful robot-filled SteamWorld universe. Impressively each of these games embodies completely different genres, such as action-platformer with SteamWorld Dig and turn-based tactical strategy in SteamWorld Heist, while still maintaining lovely 2D artwork and funny robot heroes.
SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech features a full on fantasy world – but still starring quippy robots, and adds yet another new genre to the SteamWorld library: deckbuilding RPG. The card-based combat is intuitive and rewarding, bolstered by the colorful SteamWorld art design.
One of the best indie game releases of 2017 is getting a physical retail release this year. Rising Star Games has announced SteamWorld Dig 2 will receive boxed editions for PlayStation 4 and Switch. This retail-friendly version is currently scheduled for a Spring 2018 release.
The SteamWorld series is developed by Swedish developer Image & Form. “We’re totally humbled by the community’s reaction to SteamWorld Dig 2”, said Brjann Sigurgeirsson, CEO at Image & Form. “This latest SteamWorld adventure is a milestone, and we’re naturally very proud of it. Many fans are now asking for a physical release, so it makes me very happy to be able to partner up with Rising Star Games for a boxed version. We’re also excited that additional exclusive items will be included as well!”
The upcoming boxed editions will feature an exclusive double-sided poster featuring artwork from the game as well as a reversible inlay.
SteamWorld Dig 2 is the sequel to 2014’s SteamWorld Dig. SteamWorld Dig featured action-platformer gameplay in a cavernous world of mines and treasure. A spin-off, SteamWorld Heist, released in 2015 and shifted gears to tactical 2D strategy. SteamWorld Dig 2 expands on the original platforming adventure, this time starring a different steampunk robot hero named Dorothy.
SteamWorld Dig 2 retail versions will launch Spring 2018. It’s available now on digital shops for Steam PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and Switch. It’s been rated E for Everyone.
