Harry Potter: Wizards Unite Adds Adventure Sync for Easy Walkin’

Posted by | Mobile, News | No Comments

For hatching eggs in Pokémon GO there was no better feature than Adventure Sync. Niantic has recently added the steps tracker to their other augmented reality game, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, to assist witches and wizards in unlocking their Portkey Portmanteaus.

Adventure Sync is an optional feature that allows the game to sync up with your smartphone’s built-in pedometer, which tracks the amount of distance you walk in a day.

Like Pokémon GO’s eggs, you need to walk a certain distance to unlock any acquired Portkey Portmanteaus. With Adventure Sync enabled, you no longer need to be in the game to apply your steps toward the unlocks.

Adventure Sync will need to be manually enabled in the settings menu. Assuming you have push notifications enabled, Wizards Unite will notify you when a Portmanteau has been unlocked.

As part of the update, Portmanteaus now feature different artwork depending on how much walking they require: a boot for 2 km, a kettle for 5 km, and a deflated ball for 10 km.

Players will now be able to acquire precious Spell Energy by interacting with Wrackspurts within a Portkey. Previous special or limited Portkey areas, such as Umbridge’s Office, are also returning, and we should start seeing new Foundables that weren’t previously found in Portkeys.

As a final incentive to unlocking new Portkeys, we’ll now be able to hold two additional Portmanteaus at one time, for a total of 10.

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is available for free on iOS and Android mobile devices.

It’s a Christmas Calamity in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite

Posted by | Mobile, News | No Comments

I always found it odd that a school so blatantly celebrated a religious holiday, but I suppose Hogwarts is anything but a typical school. Christmas has always been a major part of the series, and it’s no different for mobile AR game Harry Potter: Wizards Unite.

The Christmas Calamity Brilliant Event will consist of several events beginning on December 3, and features special scenes and memories from the Hogwarts Yule Ball, as well as helping Hagrid return lost magical creatures.

Here’s the official schedule of events:

Christmas Calamity Brilliant Event Part 1: December 3-10

  • Relive the winter wonderland of the Hogwarts Yule Ball, including memories of couples like Hermione and Viktor, as well as Hagrid and Madame Maxime.

Christmas Calamity Brilliant Event Part 2: December 17-24

  • Reflect on Yule Ball memories from Ron and his friends, including memories of Parvati and Harry, as well as Fred and Angelina.

In addition, Wizards Unite will have a Community Day on December 14. During the one-day event, players can find special Portkeys that will teleport to Hagrid’s Hut to unlock rare magical creatures. Developer Niantic is also teasing a 12 Tasks of Christmas Event, with details to follow in the coming days.

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is free-to-play on iOS and Android.

Pokémon GO Trainers Can Reserve Their Name for Harry Potter: Wizards Unite

Posted by | Mobile, News | No Comments

Pokémon GO players can now reserve their user names for upcoming AR mobile game Harry Potter: Wizards Unite.

To reserve your name, you’ll need to head to the website and select the option to use your Pokémon Go Trainer Nickname. If you play Ingress (or would rather use that name), you can select to use your Ingress Agent Name instead.

Since Ingress and Pokémon GO do not share user names, it’s possible your name could be used by another person from the other game. Name reservations will happen on a first come, first served basis. You have until midnight on April 30 to reserve your name.

All three games are developed by Niantic, Inc. Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is developed in conjunction with WB Games and Portkey Games. Like Niantic’s other mobile games, it will use augmented reality to display magical environments and creatures in the real world, via your smartphone.

Niantic provided the first details of Wizards Unite last month. Players take on the role of a new recruit of the Statute of Secrecy Task Force. The goal is to investigate magical aberrations that threaten to expose the wizarding world. You’ll be able to cast spells, collect Foundables, unlock Portkeys, and battle enemies in Wizarding Challenges.

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will launch later this year.

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite Is a Pokémon GO-like AR Mobile Game

The creators of Pokémon GO (Niantic Inc.) are joining forces with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment to create an augmented reality mobile game based on J.K. Rowling’s incredibly popular Harry Potter series. Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will utilize the same AR technology as Pokémon GO. No release date has yet been announced. More details will be revealed in 2018.

“At Niantic, our goal is to leverage technology to create real world experiences that help people to discover the wonderful, and often magical parts of the world around them,” said John Hanke, founder and CEO of Niantic, Inc. “The beloved Harry Potter stories have captured imaginations worldwide for more than 20 years and soon we’ll turn the fantasy into augmented reality, allowing fans and their friends to become wizards and witches.”

Gameplay will operate much like Pokémon GO. Players will explore neighborhoods and cities, learning and casting spells, finding magical artifacts, and encounter beasts and characters from the Harry Potter universe.

“With this game, we are allowing the passionate, worldwide fan base to experience J.K. Rowling’s deeply powerful and imaginative universe in a new, truly immersive way,” said David Haddad, President, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “It is wonderful to have Niantic’s remarkable augmented reality expertise as we develop this incredibly rich wizarding world for players to explore in their everyday lives.”

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is co-developed by Niantic and Portkey Games. Portkey Games is a games label under WBIE that specifically creates content based on the Harry Potter license. Harry Poter: Wizards Unit will be published by Niantic, and is probably coming some time next year.

Niantic has come under frequent fire and criticism regarding server issues and instability for Pokémon GO, particularly surrounding the game’s rocky launch in Summer 2016. Despite frequent setbacks and problems Pokémon GO proved so popular it reached mainstream cultural phenomenon that most games can only dream of.

Harry Potter’s popularity easily rivals that of Pokémon. Let’s hope they have a handle on the incoming tide of wizards.
