Atlas Empires Is a Base-Building AR Game, Coming Soon to Mobile

Posted by | Mobile, News | No Comments

Since the explosive release of Pokémon Go four years ago, the augmented reality genre has seen mostly clones, such as Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. Cerberus Interactive is hoping to shake up the formula with Atlas Empires, an AR mobile game that combines base-building and real-time strategy within an AR experience.

Like other AR games, Atlas Empires provides a virtual map of your surroundings. Instead of capturing pokémon or casting spells, however, you build outposts and battle enemies. By searching around the real world, you can collect treasures, and purchase more powerful troops.

“We are incredibly grateful to our initial wave of fans for their ongoing support and dedication to Atlas Empires,” said Sami Khan, CEO and co-founder, Cerberus Interactive. “Put simply, we could not have created such an amazing game without their feedback and help during development. We look forward to the global launch of the game so we can showcase this unique experience to all fans around the world.”

Atlas Empires has been in beta testing, and recently soft launched in select countries, including Australia and Canada. It’s due out in the US later this summer as free-to-download with in-app purchases. You can pre-register at the official website. It’s rated E10+.

Pokémon GO Making Quarantine-Friendly Changes to Play from Home

Posted by | Mobile, News | No Comments

When many states and countries around the world are sheltering in place during the global coronavirus pandemic, playing a game the requires walking around outside is probably not a great idea. To adjust to this new normal, Pokémon GO is adding several changes that make the AR mobile game easier to play without leaving your own home.

First, everyone will receive one daily bonus Field Research task. Every day at midnight you’ll receive a bonus task without having to spin a PokéStop. The tasks will focus on activities you can do at home.

Buddy pokémon will send gifts to you from PokéStops if you’re running low. You can then send these gifts to friends online.

The Remote Raid Pass will allow you to join any raid on the Nearby screen, without having to physically be near the raid site. The number of Remote Raid Passes that can be used in a raid is currently limited.

In the future, when it’s safe to get together again, the power level of remote users will be reduced. Remote Raid Passes can be purchased for 100 PokéCoins. As an initial bonus, a special 1 PokéCoin bundle also includes Remote Raid Passes.

Finally, pokémon can be powered up faster using candy and stardust, and items will overlap to add their duration. The XP-granting Lucky Egg normally lasts for 30-minutes at a time. Soon you can activate up to 24-hours worth of Lucky Eggs. Watch that phone battery!

Niantic has not announced when these changes will go live. More new updates, such as improved battle screens, are also coming soon. Pokémon GO is free-to-download on mobile devices.

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite Adds Adventure Sync for Easy Walkin’

Posted by | Mobile, News | No Comments

For hatching eggs in Pokémon GO there was no better feature than Adventure Sync. Niantic has recently added the steps tracker to their other augmented reality game, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, to assist witches and wizards in unlocking their Portkey Portmanteaus.

Adventure Sync is an optional feature that allows the game to sync up with your smartphone’s built-in pedometer, which tracks the amount of distance you walk in a day.

Like Pokémon GO’s eggs, you need to walk a certain distance to unlock any acquired Portkey Portmanteaus. With Adventure Sync enabled, you no longer need to be in the game to apply your steps toward the unlocks.

Adventure Sync will need to be manually enabled in the settings menu. Assuming you have push notifications enabled, Wizards Unite will notify you when a Portmanteau has been unlocked.

As part of the update, Portmanteaus now feature different artwork depending on how much walking they require: a boot for 2 km, a kettle for 5 km, and a deflated ball for 10 km.

Players will now be able to acquire precious Spell Energy by interacting with Wrackspurts within a Portkey. Previous special or limited Portkey areas, such as Umbridge’s Office, are also returning, and we should start seeing new Foundables that weren’t previously found in Portkeys.

As a final incentive to unlocking new Portkeys, we’ll now be able to hold two additional Portmanteaus at one time, for a total of 10.

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is available for free on iOS and Android mobile devices.

It’s a Christmas Calamity in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite

Posted by | Mobile, News | No Comments

I always found it odd that a school so blatantly celebrated a religious holiday, but I suppose Hogwarts is anything but a typical school. Christmas has always been a major part of the series, and it’s no different for mobile AR game Harry Potter: Wizards Unite.

The Christmas Calamity Brilliant Event will consist of several events beginning on December 3, and features special scenes and memories from the Hogwarts Yule Ball, as well as helping Hagrid return lost magical creatures.

Here’s the official schedule of events:

Christmas Calamity Brilliant Event Part 1: December 3-10

  • Relive the winter wonderland of the Hogwarts Yule Ball, including memories of couples like Hermione and Viktor, as well as Hagrid and Madame Maxime.

Christmas Calamity Brilliant Event Part 2: December 17-24

  • Reflect on Yule Ball memories from Ron and his friends, including memories of Parvati and Harry, as well as Fred and Angelina.

In addition, Wizards Unite will have a Community Day on December 14. During the one-day event, players can find special Portkeys that will teleport to Hagrid’s Hut to unlock rare magical creatures. Developer Niantic is also teasing a 12 Tasks of Christmas Event, with details to follow in the coming days.

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is free-to-play on iOS and Android.
