Story & Themes
Unicorn Overlord is a strategy-RPG that combines real-time strategy warfare with turn-based tactical auto-battles. It's set in the war-torn fantasy world of Fevrith, and stars an exiled prince of a conquered kingdom. The story follows Prince Alain's return to the mainland to take back his country with the help of alliances with friends and neighbors.
Between battles, players can freely roam the overworld map, exploring new towns and finding secrets and goodies. Most new areas feature side quests and battles. Starting a battle shifts into a real-time strategy mode where players deploy their units, directing their movement and special skills. When opposing units clash, the game shifts into a turn-based tactical mode, watching both sides execute their programmed moves and abilities, all of which can be customized before the battle.
Unicorn Overlord features Japanese indie studio Vanillaware's signature eye-catching anime art style, and a huge roster of recruitable characters. The SRPG gameplay is inspired by Ogre Battle and Fire Emblem.
Save Points
Players can freely save the game any time, including during battles.
Difficulty
Unicorn Overload features four different difficulty settings (plus a secret fifth setting unlocked after completing the game): Story, Normal, Tactical, and Expert.
Heads Up!
Violence Combat and warfare at the main themes throughout the story. When units clash, they swing blades and cast spells, resulting in cries of pain and some blood, though the art style is highly animated.
Sex & Nudity Vanillaware uses an exaggerated, "sexy" art style for many male and female characters. Many female characters have jiggling breasts and exposed legs.
