Story & Themes
As evidenced by the title, Marvel Mystic Mayhem focuses on the supernatural world of the Marvel universe. As the villainous entity known as Nightmare bursts forth, Doctor Strange assembles a team of heroes to fight back, including Scarlet Witch, Moon Knight, and Hulk. The campaign story depicts our heroes freeing others from the clutches of Nightmare and his cohorts through a series of missions and comic book panel cutscenes.
As a gacha-RPG, players work to earn keys and shards to pull on banners and get new characters and equippable highlights to empower them.
The mobile game centers around real-time combat encounters with teams of three characters. Everyone moves and attacks automatically, but the action pauses while players issue randomly drawn skill cards from their team, and unleash ultimate attacks.
Much of the strategy comes from team composition and synergy, as well as proper timing and placement of skills and ultimate moves. Characters come in different classes that specialize in different roles, such as Defenders, Strikers, and Controllers.
A large variety of game modes are available for grinding specific materials needed to advance characters, ascend leaderboards, and earn rare materials. Daily and weekly missions are available, as well as achievements and team alliances for extra rewards.
The art design is incredibly rich and colorful, evoking a comic book, while giving classic Marvel characters like Hulk a distinctly mystic-makeover. The RPG also showcases lesser-known characters such as Misty Knight, Black Knight, and Armor.

As a mobile game, players can save and quit any time.
Difficulty
Combat plays in real time as characters move forward and attack. The action pauses while players select which of their team's skills to use from a random selection, while generating energy to unleash ultimate attacks. Difficulty is mostly level based, with players able to clear content after leveling up and outfitting their favorite characters. Much of the challenge comes from deciding which characters to use against certain challenges.
Heads Up!
Violence Superheroes battle nightmare creatures and villains with elemental blasts, guns, melee weapons, and unarmed strikes. In some modes heroes all face off against each other. Defeated enemies quickly disappear. Some mild blood is shown in comic book panel cutscenes.
Scary Imagery Some of the nightmare creatures are a little more monstrous, with multiple mouths and limbs.
Consumerism Marvel Mystic Mayhem is a free-to-play gacha game. Players can earn and purchase keys (and shards) which are used to pull on banners to receive highlights and characters. Players are guaranteed one 2-star highlight every 5 pulls, with one 3-star character or highlight given after 80 pulls (rare chance of receiving one earlier). The story campaign can be completed with 2-star content. Players can also purchase a dreampass, which unlocks additional materials and resources through regular play, as well as purchase various character promo packs for real money.
