Story & Themes
Legacy of the Dark Knight tells the complete story of Batman as inspired by the Dark Knight's popular appearances in film, animated television shows, and video games. From losing his parents, to training at the League of Shadows, to becoming Gotham's protectors. Batman also accrues a stable of allies, from loyal butler Alfred to plucky sidekick Robin and sultry foil Catwoman.
As an open world game, players are free to explore Gotham, gathering collectibles and thwarting random crimes. Players can play each mission at their own pace, with missions providing new areas, objectives, and collectibles, many of which star iconic villains and their own origin stories.
The entire game is playable in co-op with a second player, as every mission includes at least one other heroic sidekick. In the open world, players can swap between the characters they've unlocked. Each character has its own specific weapons, combos, and abilities to defeat enemies and overcome challenges. Batman uses batarangs and grapple arms, while Catwoman has her whip, and summons helpful kitties.
Legacy of the Dark Knight is a huge leap forward for LEGO video games, including full facial animations and voice acting, multiple difficulty levels, and advanced combo moves during combat. Yet it still retains the signature LEGO humor with lots of little jokes, slapstick humor, and clever references to all things Batman.
Difficulty
Legacy of the Dark Knight features three different difficulty levels. Classic is the typical kid-friendly LEGO game experience, with unlimited lives, basic enemies, and fast-paced action - perfect for younger children and new players.
Caped Crusader creates a more balanced setting with more enemies, and advanced enemy types, while keeping unlimited lives.
For older and more advanced players, Dark Knight mode limits the number of lives players have per mission, with stronger enemies and more challenging boss battles.
Heads Up!
Violence Battling criminals is a major part of the gameplay, with Batman and friends punching, kicking, whipping, and firing off gadgets. Thanks to the LEGO setting, defeated characters explode into LEGO pieces when defeated.
Consumerism A Deluxe Edition includes in-game costume packs, plus post-launch DLC starring Joker and Harley Quinn. Kids may be encouraged to purchase LEGO sets, though it's not explicitly encouraged in game.
