Story & Themes
Stellar Blade is a third-person action game distilled from a long line of over-the-top, cinematic action games such as Bayonetta, Nier: Automata, and Sekiro.
Like Nier, it's set in a post-apocalyptic future after humanity has lost Earth to monstrous creatures. As a member of cybernetically-enhanced super-soldiers, Eve is deployed from her space colony to help reclaim Earth, meeting up with survivors and battling through waves of the Naytiba, as well as more powerful Alpha Naytiba.
Stellar Blade's defense-focused combat features precision timing with blocks, parries, and dodges. Eve builds up energy using her sword and guns and unleashes huge burst skills to down enemies.
The game features exceptional graphics, framerate, and animations, as well as a variety of monstrous creature designs and a snappy soundtrack.
Save Points
Soulslike action games often have more restrictive save points, and Stellar Blade is no exception. Only one save slot per playthrough, and saves can only be made while resting in camps. However, any earned SP, gold, and items will remain if the player is forced to revive at the last camp.
Difficulty
As a soulslike action game, Stellar Blade can be challenging for new players to the genre, but it also provides a steady ramp up in difficulty. Stellar Blade's combat is defense-oriented, meaning players must master precision reactions to enemy attack patterns in order to succeed.
Heads Up!
Violence Combat in Stellar Blade is fast, frenetic, and cinematic. It also features blood-splatter, dismemberment, and impalement with monstrous creatures.
Scary Imagery Eve must traverse certain underground areas without her usual super-powered abilities, making them more like a survival-horror game.
Sex & Nudity One of the game's big selling points is the objectification of its female protagonist. Eve wears flesh-tight body, revealing body suits, and even more revealing outfits can be unlocked as rewards. Camera angles and animations are designed to show off Eve's form as much as possible. Beyond the near-constant titillation, however, there is no actual sexual content in game.
Strong Language The "s-word" appears in game.
Substance Use None.
Consumerism Players can unlock costumes through earned in-game currency, without any paid microtransactions.
