During this week’s IGN x ID@Xbox Digital Showcase, developer indie Japanese developer Pocketpair teased a big new update coming to Palworld. The brief teaser video reveals four new Pals, as well as a new location inspired by Japan.

The new Pals include a frog-wizard wielding a stick-wand, a colorful bird with a headdress, a long-necked, squat dinosaur with a mushroom cap, and what looks like some sort of floating monk samurai dog?

The trailer also revealed a new Japanese-inspired region, complete with Cherry Blossom trees, and an actual flamethrower weapon.

Palworld is a survival-crafting game that released earlier this year via Early Access on PC and Game Preview on Xbox. It combines elements of Minecraft and Pokémon in a fully 3D world as players build bases, craft items and supplies, explore the world, and battle, capture, and train the dozens of Pals that inhabit it.

The crafting game became an overnight success, selling million of copies and becoming one of the most played games on Steam, though that number has since fallen into more normal ranges.

Arriving in a future update this year are PvP arenas, where players can battle each other’s teams in the Pal Arena. Palworld is set to remain in Early Access throughout the rest of 2024, with a potential release in 2025.

Palworld is rated T for Teen for Mild Language and Violence.
