Sega and Atlus have released Persona 3 Reload, a remake of the 2006 RPG, on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox ($69.99).
Reload retains the original story of Persona 3, which should be familiar to Persona fans: a recently transferred high school student gains the ability to summon his Persona. Soon he meets friends with similar powers, and by night they defeat shadows plaguing mankind.
The remake is built with Unreal Engine 4, and utilizes many quality of life improvements from Persona 5, such as improved map and navigation, and new new English voice-lines.
Exploring Tartarus has changed to a third-person perspective with a 3D overland map. Fatigue has been removed, and players can now run (with an increased chance of encounters).
The social side also received improvements, including redone class questions, as well as various tasks that can improve social stats and social links with other characters during the day.
Weirdly, the remake doesn’t use the new story content from 2010’s well-received PlayStation Portable version, Persona 3 Portable, including the option to play as a female protagonist.
The Persona series is renowned for its anime art, killer soundtrack, and balance between social sim and hardcore turn-based combat.
Persona 3 Reload is available in standard, digital deluxe and digital premium versions. The Digital Deluxe version ($79.99) includes a digital artbook and soundtrack. The Digital Premium edition ($99.99) also includes the DLC Pack, which features costume sets and persona sets inspired by Persona 4 and Persona 5.
