The rumors are true: EA is publishing an original, single-player action game based on the Black Panther character from Marvel comics.

Developing the as-yet-untitled Black Panther game is a new development studio, Cliffhanger Games, based in Seattle.

The team at Cliffhanger Games are filled with veterans whose resumes include Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, Halo Infinite, and God of War.

“We’re dedicated to delivering fans a definitive and authentic Black Panther experience, giving them more agency and control over their narrative than they have ever experienced in a story-driven video game,” said Kevin Stephens, studio head, Cliffhanger Games. “Wakanda is a rich super hero sandbox, and our mission is to develop an epic world for players who love Black Panther and want to explore the world of Wakanda as much as we do.”

Cliffhanger and EA are working in close collaboration with Marvel Games to recreate the world of Wakanda, including its culture, technology, and associated heroes and villains, along with an original story “with the attention to detail and authenticity that the world of Black Panther deserves.”

This game is not to be confused with the previously announced Black Panther and Captain America game by Skydance New Media, apparently set during World War 2.

Marvel Games have licensed to other big publishers, including Sony (Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Wolverine), Square Enix (Marvel’s Avengers, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy) and 2K (Marvel’s Midnight Suns). EA hasn’t released any Marvel Games yet, though they have three currently in development, including an untitled Iron Man game.

No platforms or release dates for Black Panther, but EA is putting out a call to join the team “over the next few years.”
