Frontier Developments, makers of 2016’s Planet Coaster and 2018’s Jurassic World Evolution, announced their newest theme park game: Planet Zoo. Planet Zoo will launch this fall exclusively on PC (Steam).
Judging from the announcement trailer (above) Planet Zoo will largely operate like Planet Coaster. Players will build paths, amenities, decorations, and exhibits and enclosures for wildlife in order to create a profitable and successful zoo.
The big difference in Planet Zoo is you’ll also be managing living creatures. In addition to keeping guests happy, you’ll need to be attentive to your animals’ needs. Each animal is governed by its own AI, with distinctive personalities. Careful management and proper habitats will be critical to keeping them happy and healthy.
“This is the zoo management game we’ve wanted to make for many years,’ said Jonny Watts, Chief Creative Officer, Frontier. ‘We’ve challenged ourselves to build on the games we’ve made before and to carry the great legacy of classics like the Zoo Tycoon series forward. We’re taking everything we’ve learned from our past work and focusing on modern values – incredible authenticity, rich management, limitless creativity and community sharing – to make our best-ever simulation game. We hope you’ll join us when Planet Zoo launches later this year.”
Planet Zoo looks to be the best of both worlds with Planet Coaster’s robust editor and creation tools and Jurassic World Evolution’s creature AI and management. Like Planet Coaster it will be exclusive to PC, which will allow for added complexity and controls, as well as piece-by-piece construction tools for carving out enclosures and terrain.
Planet Zoo will arrive on Steam this fall. For the first details on Planet Zoo, tune into Frontier’s live stream later this morning at 9 am Pacific/12 pm Eastern on Twitch or Mixer.
