Team17 and Swedish indie developer Villa Gorilla have released a demo of their unique pinball-platformer Yoku’s Island Express. Yoku’s Island Express launched earlier this summer on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch.
Yoku’s Island Express stars a, er, dung beetle-like insect. Thankfully Yoku works for the post-office, and is merely delivering the mail. However, Yoku can’t jump.
The insect must ferry a ball across each level of Mokumana Island, which play out like a sequence of interconnected pinball tables. Pinball paddles are used to catapult Yoku and his ball to new heights. The game is billed as an “open-world pinball adventure,” featuring hand-painted artwork, big boss battles, and a variety of tropical locales.
The brief demo takes only about 15-minutes to complete, but does a solid job showing off the physics-based gameplay.
Yoku’s Island Express, and new the free demo, are available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Switch for $19.99. It’s rated E for Everyone with Animated Blood, Crude Humor, and Fantasy Violence.
