The Pokémon Company and Nintendo have revealed more details on new content and features for Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, along with a new trailer. Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon will arrive globally November 17 on Nintendo 3DS.
The Alola Island Challenge returns as the main quest in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. Some of the challenges will be different, and there is one new trial. A new wrinkle in the plot is the arrival of Legendary Pokémon Necrozma. Necrozma is a Psychic type who takes over Ultra Sun’s Solgaleo and Ultra Moon’s Lunala, as seen in an earlier trailer.
Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon will feature more than 400 Pokémon, compared to Sun and Moon’s 300 (the total number of all Pokémon across every game is over 800). No new Pokémon have been announced. As is typical with enhanced versions of Pokémon games, the roster will include older Pokémon. Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon will also have exclusives like every other dual release. Houndoom will be in Ultra Sun, Manectric in Ultra Moon.
One new rider Pokémon will be available in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon: Mantine Surf. Not only does Mantine provide a new way to travel between islands, it’s also a new surfing mini-game.
The last newly revealed feature is the Alola Photo Club. Between this and Super Mario Odyssey’s Photo mode Nintendo is definitely embracing the Instagram and Snapchat crowd. Take photos with Pokémon and enchance them with backgrounds, camera angles, poses, and all manner of filters and stickers. Photos can be shared via Nintendo 3DS’ online features.
Pokémon Gold and Silver launched last week on the Nintendo eShop. Purchasing the classic 1999 sequels before September 21, 2018 will grant a special code for Mythical Pokémon Celebi. Celebi can be used in Pokémon Sun and Moon as well as Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.
Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon launches November 17.
