After reaching the million dollar mark only 36 hours into its 30-day campaign, Ashes of Creation has closed out its crowdfunding campaign with over $3.2 million in funding. Over 19,000 backers contributed to indie team Intrepid Studios’ debut. It has become the most funded MMORPG on Kickstarter of all time.

“This is simply stunning. We cannot thank the fans of Ashes of Creation enough for their support. We promise we won’t let you down, and we’re absolutely thrilled to find so many like-minded gamers who want to see the MMORPG genre truly move forward.” – Steven Sharif, CEO and Creative Director of Intrepid Studios.

Every stretch goal on the Kickstarter page was unlocked, including new mounts, naval content, and a new secondary world underneath the surface called the Underrealm.

Ashes of Creation promises a player-driven, reactive MMORPG built by veterans of the genre. Features include PVP castle sieges, regional economy, and towns and cities that are built up by local players. It will use an old-school monthly subscription model. It’s planned for closed Alpha later this year, with Beta and possible release later next year.

The Kickstarter page mentions that Ashes of Creation has private backing. Three million sounds like a lot of money, but it’s a drop in the bucket for game development – particularly a massively ambitious MMORPG.

If you missed the Kickstarter campaign and are still interested in backing (and earning backer rewards), Intrepid Studios will keep crowdsourcing open throughout the month of June via their website.  However no more stretch goals will be announced at this point.

Ashes of Creation is tentatively schedule for Beta and release late next year.
