Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced that a sequel to the popular fighting game featuring DC Comics characters will be coming in 2017. Injustice 2 expands upon the gameplay in the first game as well as extending the story. The game, like its predecessor, is being developed by NeverRealm Studios.
“In Injustice 2, we are introducing new features that will change the way fans play fighting games,” said Ed Boon, Creative Director, NetherRealm Studios in an official release. “We’re always interested in pushing the genre forward and allowing players to customize and level-up their favorite DC Super Heroes and Super-Villains is a significant leap.”
Injustice 2 will allow for a larger amount of character customization as players can change the stats and looks of their favorite characters though upgrades and gear that can be won throughout the game. Injustice 2 will also continue the storyline of the first game, which pits Batman against Superman. But in this game there will be another threat to deal with.
“Expanding the DC Universe in games continues to be one of our top priorities, and Injustice 2 showcases amazing gameplay and an original story to bring the characters to life for players,” said David Haddad, President, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment in an official release. “NetherRealm Studios is offering fans an experience of customizing and battling with DC’s iconic characters in an entirely new way.”
Some of the playable characters in Injustice 2 include Batman, Superman, Supergirl, Aquaman, The Flash and more. The game is slated for release some time in 2017.
