Toca Boca and Sago Mini make some of the most popular (and best) kids’ apps on the market. Now the Canadian toy company Spin Master has announced that it’s acquiring both companies from their parent company, Sweden’s Bonnier Group.
The CEO of Spin Master said the acquisition will help Spin Master “develop a leadership position in the mobile app space.” Until now, Spin Master has been known for toys like Chubby Puppies and Bunchems, toys-to-life products like Sick Bricks, and animated TV series.
Both Toca Boca and Sago Mini have lots of apps for children on the iTunes and Google app stores. The apps for preschoolers have been featured many times on Pixelkin’s Ana’s Apps. They’re educational, easy to learn, and favorites among both kids and parents. The two companies together boast more than 15 million active users a month.
Toca Boca has been moving into TV, and both Toca Boca and Sago Mini have planned toy lines. “We are very excited to join the Spin Master team and look forward to continue building the mobile app space in conjunction with Spin Master’s deep expertise and leading position in toys and entertainment globally,” said Björn Jeffrey, the CEO of Toca Boca.
The deal is supposed to close officially May 2. Spin Master also recently acquired Cardinal Games, Editrice Giochi, and Etch A Sketch and Doodle Sketch.
