Some lucky (or unlucky, depending on how you feel about gaming in front of an audience) Halo 5 fan will get to play the first 15 minutes of the Halo 5: Guardians campaign on the world’s largest aerial screen—2,000 feet above Sydney’s coastline.
On October 26 at about 7:30 p.m., the screen will launch into the sky and make its way down the coast from Curl Curl to Coogee and then back. The fan will be chosen from a group of customers who pre-ordered Halo 5: Guardians or the Halo 5: Guardians Limited Edition Console Bundle from Australia’s Microsoft Store. They will be playing from helicopter above Sydney’s Bondi Beach; the aerial screen will be visible from over three kilometers away (almost two miles).
That all sounds like a nightmare to me, but I suppose it’s kind of a cool marketing gimmick, assuming there are even Halo fans in the area when the screen starts moving. Everyone else might be a little baffled. Hopefully the fan chosen for the event will have a good time—the last time I played Halo in front of an audience I ended up panicking and spent the whole time trying to get my camera the right way before getting slaughtered by my friends. (I was a PC gamer back then, okay? Don’t judge.)
Halo 5: Guardians will be available October 27 of this year for Xbox One only.
