With Grand Theft Auto 6 finally releasing on November 19, Rockstar Games has opened pre-orders for the Standard and Ultimate Editions, along with some startling (or perhaps, not so much) news that neither edition will actually include a physical game disc.
Rockstar Games have since clarified that a physical copy will be coming “during the following months.”
Even if you buy the physical version of the Standard Edition ($79.99), you’ll still only receive a download code, making the physical version mostly useless (unless you like putting boxes on shelves).
The Ultimate Edition will set you back $100, and includes a ridiculous amount of extra in-game goodies:
- ’95 Grotti Cheetah sports car
- ’67 Vapid Dominator Buggy
- Squalo boat with weapon crate
- Dinka Enduro motorcycle and Crest Kayak
- Hawk & Little Morgan Revolvers
- Personalized engravings for Jason and Lucia’s pistols
- Vice City style clothing, tattoos, etc
- Exclusive mods for Jason’s Vapid Ganado
- Exclusive clothing stores and mod shops only open for the Ultimate Edition:
- Sara’s Unisex Salon
- Stock 305 Clothing Store
- Electric Fang Tattoo Parlor
- One-eyed Willie’s Mod Shop
- Clothing and accessories inspired by fictional TV character, Macca the Gator
- PTT Youngin$ Illegal Goods raidable compound
- Classic Car Collection – special commission from Wyman
That’s a lot of stuff, including multiple stores that are only open if you have the Ultimate Edition, yeesh. It’s mostly cosmetics, though. Still, some may feel that GTA 6 is really a $100 game, and the Standard edition is just less-than.
Sadly, the announcement did not include a new trailer, though Rockstar did unleash a ton of new screenshots.
If you pre-order either the Standard or Ultimate Edition, you’ll receive the Vintage Vice City Pack, and one free month of GTA+.
The Vintage Vice City Pack is a 1980s throwback (and throwback to Grand Theft Auto: Vice City!). The pack includes unique outfits for Jason and Lucia, and a two-tone ’55 Vapid Stainer sedan.
Meanwhile, GTA+ is a premium subscription to Grand Theft Auto Online, which provides a monthly deposit of $500,000 GTA bucks, discounted vehicles, and a selection of classic Rockstar Games titles.
Digital pre-orders can also begin pre-loading the game a week early on November 12.
Despite grumbling about prices and game discs, GTA 6 is poised to become the best-selling game of the year. Grand Theft Auto 5, released way back in 2013, is the third best-selling game of all time, while Rockstar’s previous large-scale open world adventure, 2018’s Red Dead Redemption 2, is the #4 all-time best-selling game. The GTA series is number five among gaming IPS, behind only the likes of Mario and Pokémon.
The Grand Theft Auto series is infamously M rated, and known for popularizing the modern open world genre, satirizing American culture and cities, and providing cutting edge graphics and immersion.
Grand Theft Auto 6 will release on November 19 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
