Marvel Rivals has officially entered Season 2.5, adding the highly anticipated Strategist Ultron to the roster. Season 2.5 also adds a new map, new Team-Ups and events, and some balance changes.
As the first post-launch Strategist, Ultron uses his drones to heal and support his team. The advanced robot is capable of free flight, like Iron Man and Storm, and can damage enemies with his life-draining Encephalo-Ray. His Ultimate unleashes a squad of Ultron drones that each fire rays that can damage enemies and heal allies.
Ultron further stretches the definition of “hero” in the hero shooter, joining the ranks of Hela as villains who, I’m pretty sure, have never been heroes or anti-heroes. Not that I’m complaining — more unrepentant villains please!
The new map is Arakko, a sister island to the mutant stronghold of Krakoa. Arakko has been transformed by Ultron to become a mechanical dystopia.
Season 2.5 shakes up the game’s signature Team-Up Abilities, adding six while removing four. That makes over half the Team-Ups adjusted since the game’s launch last December.
An interesting new limited-time mode is arriving next week: Ultron’s Battle Matrix Protocol. In this mode, players build a full team of their favorite heroes and pit them against each other in a sort-of auto-chess battlefield. Ultron’s Battle Matrix Protocol will unlock on June 6.
The mid-season update also includes bug fixes and balance changes, including improvements to Jeff and Thor. See the patch notes and balance updates for more.
Marvel Rivals is available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, and rated T for Teen.
