Nintendo has confirmed that pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 will begin April 24. Nintendo also confirmed the previously announced Switch 2 price of $449 will remain the same ($499 for the Mario Kart World bundle).
US pre-orders were initially scheduled to begin on April 9. However, the Trump Administration later enacted sweeping tariffs, along with an escalating trade war against China specifically, where many electronic components are manufactured.
As a result of the tariffs, Nintendo had delayed pre-orders, and cautioned about a possible price increase for the Switch 2.
The good news is, the price for the Switch 2 has not increased. Launch games Mario Kart World ($79.99) and Donkey Kong Bananza ($69.99) also remain the same price, though Mario Kart’s eyebrow-raising $80 price tag is setting a new industry standard.
Now for the bad news. “Nintendo Switch 2 accessories will experience price adjustments from those announced on April 2 due to changes in market conditions. Other adjustments to the price of any Nintendo product are also possible in the future depending on market conditions.”
Nintendo accessories have been increased about $5 to $10. Accessories include the Switch 2 Pro Controller ($84.99), the Switch 2 Camera ($54.99), and the Joy-Con 2 ($94.99).
The price of extra controllers is pretty darn steep for families that want to play together. The Switch 2 Camera has some neat integrations via GameChat, and displaying webcam pictures in games such as Mario Kart World and Super Mario Party Jamboree. But the camera costs nearly as much as a Switch 2 game!
The Nintendo Switch 2 will launch on June 5.
