Long-running RuneScape developer Jagex have released a new survival crafting spinoff of the classic MMO with RuneScape: Dragonwilds. RuneScape Dragonwilds is out now via Steam Early Access ($29.99).

Dragonwilds is set on a forgotten continent within the RuneScape world, where dragons are running amok. Up to four players must survive by gathering materials, building their village, delving into dungeons, and slaying monsters.

The continent of Ashenfall is rich with Anima, allowing players to chop down trees, mine for ore, or soar through the sky using colorful magic.

The current Early Access version includes the first few regions, as well as survival systems, magic, gear, building, dungeons, and exactly one dragon to terrorize your party. Future updates include a new region, hardcore and creative modes, more dragons, higher skill caps, and higher tier weapons.

“We’re so excited to surprise players with our Early Access launch today and invite them to discover the magical world of RuneScape: Dragonwilds right now,” said Jesse America, Executive Producer, Jagex. “We’ve been working hard to develop an entirely new type of RuneScape experience that ignites fans’ passion, creativity and love for questing, and provide them with an all-new RuneScape adventure to discover. And this is just the start of our development journey. Throughout Early Access, we’ll be updating the game regularly with new content and features, while listening closely to the community to deliver an iconic open world survival crafting game that is loved equally by our biggest RuneScape fans and new players alike. Our community is at the heart of everything we do at Jagex and we look forward to seeing how they shape RuneScape: Dragonwilds throughout our Early Access journey.”

I’m not entirely familiar with RuneScape, but open world survival crafting games are generally well-received, and RuneScape has a dedicated fanbase.
