NetEase Games have released the first trailer for Marvel Rivals Season 2, confirming Emma Frost and Ultron as our newest characters. Season 2 begins on April 11.
Emma Frost was a former X-Men villain turned hero (perhaps anti-hero), quickly becoming a team leader and fan-favorite character. She wields powerful telepathic abilities and can shift her physical body into a diamond form, making her one of the most powerful mutants on the planet.
Emma is a Vanguard class in Marvel Rivals, making her the first female Vanguard. She’ll arrive on April 11 with the start of Season 2.
Ultron, as far as I’m aware, has never been a hero, but a major recurring villain for the Avengers. He’s an artificial intelligence housed within a powerful robotic body, and capable of creating and deploying drones.
Early leaks have Ultron listed as a Strategist, using his drones to heal and support his allies. Ultron will arrive later in the season.
With Marvel Rivals’ roster still heavily skewed toward damage-dealing Duelists, it will be exciting to get two non-duelist characters. That being said, I’m super salty we went through an entire season about vampires and didn’t get Blade!
“Hellfire Gala,” refers to a specific comic run starring the X-Men during the Krakoa era a few years ago, which then briefly became an annual event. If you don’t know anything about that, don’t worry. Basically, it’s an excuse for everyone to mingle and dress up.
And wow, these costumes are fancy! Black Widow, Black Panther, Captain America, Storm, Luna Snow, Wolverine, and Cloak & Dagger are among those donning formal attire with new skins.
Season 2 also brings new Team-Up abilities (and removes some existing ones), ranked map rotation, and hero balance adjustments.
During the Dev Vision Vol. 5 video, NetEase Games revealed that Season 3 will operate a little differently. Season 3 will last only two months, with a new hero debuting each month. There are plenty of Marvel characters to draw from, but that is a crazy fast roadmap!
Marvel Rivals is free to play on PC (Steam, Epic), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, and rated T for Teen.
