The original Cities: Skylines turns ten years old today. Colossal Order and Paradox Interactive are celebrating the 10th anniversary with free updates to the original game, as well as the 2023 sequel.
The first update will arrive for Cities: Skylines 2, on March 18. The Anniversary Patch adds new parks and buildings.
Additionally, players can purchase three paid DLC Creator Packs:
- Dragon Gate, inspired by Chinese market quarters
- Leisure Venues, featuring new entertainment options and parks
- Mediterranean Heritage, buildings inspired by the Exploration Age of Western Europe
Three new radio stations will also be available. These DLC packs will be sold individually, as well as in a bundle, and are included in the Ultimate Edition of Cities: Skylines 2.
The original game will get some love the following week. On March 25, Cities: Skylines will receive its own Anniversary Patch, which includes dynamic parks that change with different expansions.
Cities: Skylines is also getting two Creator Packs:
- Emerging Downtown, with more building sizes and construction styles
- Countryside, focusing on small-town buildings and markets
“We founded Colossal Order with the dream of creating a city-builder that would bring more freedom and creativity to the cities players can build,” said Mariina Hallikainen, CEO, Colossal Order. “With Cities: Skylines, that dream not only came true, but thanks to the continued support of our amazing fans, we had the opportunity to keep growing and building this game and community many years after its release and take it even further than anticipated. It’s been an incredible journey that’s taught us so much — and still has more to teach — and we are forever grateful to everyone who made it possible and who joined us along the way.”
The original game remains a beloved management sim, and the pinnacle of modern city builders. Cities: Skylines has received over 60 expansion packs and DLC over the years.
The sequel, however, launched with a multitude of bugs and performance issues. Over a year later, Cities: Skylines 2 still has a dubious ‘Mixed’ rating on Steam.
Cities: Skylines will be free-to-play on Steam from March 20-24.
