Ahead of the upcoming Steam Next Fest, city building fans can try the new demo for City Tales – Medieval Era. The demo is available until March 3.
In City Tales, players take on the role of a medieval lord, growing their settlements from humble beginnings into full cities and kingdoms. Citizens gather 50 different resources through harvest, production, and manufacturing. Manage the economy and citizenry to construct over 60 different kinds of buildings.
Oh, and each structure is procedurally constructed, creating a unique look to each building and city.
Special named companions will be drawn to the city and take on certain roles. Companions feature their own narrative stories and quests. Over time they unlock new bonuses and train future citizens.
The 3D gameplay doesn’t use a familiar grid-based building system. Instead, players are free to draw and shape their own districts using the urban planning tool.
The demo includes a tutorial, the first map, eight companions (sans storylines), and over 40 buildings. Plus – castle building!
The art style looks quite cozy and vibrant, reminding me of another medieval city builder that I quite enjoyed last year, Fabledom.
City Tales – Medieval Era is set to launch later this year via Steam Early Access. Indie developer Irregular Shapes are planning for at least a year in Early Access as they implement additional features.
