After going full eldritch horror with the last Horrified installment, Ravensburger announced Horrified: Dungeons & Dragons ($29.99). The newest entry in the co-op board game series will release later this summer.

In Horrified: Dungeons & Dragons, players will work together to gather items, protect innocent bystanders, and defeat monsters while avoiding their attacks.

The fifth entry in the Horrified series pledges to add new gameplay elements inspired by D&D, such as utilizing D&D’s classic 20-sided dice.

Sadly, the press release only reveals one of the new monsters: the beholder! The floating, toothy eye monster is one of the most iconic monsters in D&D, introduced in the very first edition back in 1974.

As a D&D aficionado, I’m going to guess the other monsters: mind flayer, owl bear, and gelatinous cube! But surely we need a red dragon, too? As in Horrified: World of Monsters, the new game will feature only four monsters (and a cheaper price point).

“Anyone who knows anything about D&D knows how essential a d20 is to gameplay, so when the opportunity for us to create a Horrified game with D&D monsters came to us, we knew what we had to do,” said Mike Mulvihill, Game Development Manager, Ravensburger. “It is an honor to merge the historical and awesome worlds and themes of D&D with the immersive cooperative play that we crafted with Horrified. We believe we have created a board game that will please both dedicated fan bases.”

Horrified: Dungeons & Dragons is developed by series designer Peter Lee, who has also designed over 10 D&D board games. The co-op game supports 1-5 players with a recommended age of 10+. The last three Horrified games are also compatible with each other, letting players mix and match location boards and monsters.
