Split Fiction was one of our favorite new game announcements during The Game Awards, and Hazelight Studios (It Takes Two) has now confirmed the release date for the co-op adventure.
Split Fiction will release on March 6, 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
The co-op adventure stars Mio and Zoe. Both women are writers, but each prefers a different genre: Mio with science fiction, and Zoe with fantasy. While visiting a company that creates simulated worlds, they become trapped together in their own stories.
The simulation pulls from fantasy and sci-fi settings and ideas to provide an assortment of challenges, puzzles, and enemies. One sci-fi world involves hoverbikes and enhanced suits, while a fantasy set-up features dragon companions that grow stronger.
Regardless of the challenges, the two characters must use and combine their unique abilities to escape.
Hazelight Studios specializes in uniquely co-op-only games, with forced split-screen perspective (though games can be played online as well as locally). Hazelight’s previous game, It Takes Two, won Game of the Year at The Game Awards in 2021.
Also like It Takes Two, Split Fiction will use The Friend’s Pass, which requires only one of the players actually own the game. Split Fiction will also support crossplay.
Split Fiction is published by EA Originals, and will release on March 6, 2025. It has not yet been rated by the ESRB. Previous games from the studio have been rated T for Teen.
