Indie studio Impact Gameworks have released Flowstone Saga on Steam, an RPG inspired by the 16-bit era of pixelated JRPGs, and infused with a Tetris-like battle system.

Flowstone Saga is set in the same world as Impact Gameworks’ previous retro RPG, Tangledeep. The story follows Mirai as she stumbles upon an ancient power that helps her rebuild her home and defeat rampaging monsters.

When Mirai encounters enemies, her powers manifest as a competitive falling block puzzle, with enemies each having unique blocks and abilities they can unleash. Mirai can also restore certain areas and structures around the world using falling block puzzles.

Impact Gameworks was founded by Andrew Aversa and Andrew Luers, a pair of game designers and composers who met in the video game music community, OverClocked Remix.

In other words, the soundtrack in Flowstone Saga be slappin.’ The full soundtrack features over 70 tracks, and is available through Steam.

Flowstone Saga also supports two player drop-in/drop-out co-op assist mode during battle, customizable difficulty levels, and accessibility options, including real-time and turn-based combat.

Flowstone Saga is available now on Steam ($17.99).
