Unstable Games have launched their newest board game, Twisted Cryptids on Kickstarter, and it’s already a huge success. After just one day of crowdfunding, Twisted Cryptids has earned over $500,000 USD with over 5,000 backers.

The initial crowdfunding goal was set set $50,000, and there’s still 19 days remaining in the Kickstarter campaign.

Twisted Cryptids is a family game (age 10+) for 2-6 players who play as a Cryptid — a legendary monster in pop culture, such as Bigfoot, and the Loch Ness Monster.

Each Cryptid has a special power, and players are dealt hidden traits with bonus objectives for each game. Being a Cryptid means manipulating humans, and playing cards to scare, lure, or hide from them around the wilderness board to score the most points.

The base game pledge is very reasonable, only $29 (not including shipping), which includes a game board, 82 action cards, six Cryptid meeples, six lenticular tarot-sized Cryptid cards, and a bunch of tokens. The Kickstarer Exclusive Edition includes the retail expansion, Ness is More, which adds Nessie and Chupacabra (the eventual retail base game will only feature four Cryptids, with the expansion sold separately).

For $39 you can snag the base game plus a big box expansion, Cryptid Culture, which adds another two Cryptids and all their components (Jersey Devil and Lizard Person). A future expansion is already planned, which will add yet another two Cryptids (Yeti and Deathworm).

Other tiers and add-ons include a Play Mat (and Play Mat bundle) and a box of Vinyl Figures for all the announced Cryptids. Shipping for the base game to the USA is about $11.

Unstable Games is the gaming side of artist Ramy Badie, known for simple yet fun games with incredible card art, such as Garden Variety, Command of Nature, and Unstable Unicorns.

Twisted Cryptids is scheduled to ship in Summer 2025. The Kickstarter campaign ends October 22.
