ReedPop and Penny Arcade revealed the Keynote Speaker for upcoming tabletop convention, PAX Unplugged 2024. Popular board game designer Elizabeth Hargrave will kick off the convention on Friday, December 6 at the Philadelphia Convention Center in Pennsylvania.

Hargrave is best known for her explosive debut onto the board gaming scene with Wingspan in 2019. Instead of castles, spaceships, and medieval trade, Hargrave designed a game based on real nature — birds! Wingspan has players competing for bird cards, and playing cards to expand their abilities every turn over multiple rounds.

Wingspan was published by Stonemaier Games and became a huge success. It currently sits at #30 in the top all time games list on BoardGameGeek (and #2 for Family games). And the digital version is absolutely fabulous.

Since its debut, Hargrave has continued to design great games centered around nature, including The Fox Experiment (published by Pandasaurus), and Undergrove (Alderac Entertainment Group).

“Having Elizabeth Hargrave share her talent and her process with PAX Unplugged has been a fantasy of ours for years,” said Jerry Holkins, co-founder of PAX. “I can hardly believe it’s happening.”

PAX Unplugged is a spin-off convention from the video game convention that focuses solely on tabletop board games and RPGs. This year’s PAX Unplugged runs Dec. 6-8 in Philadelphia, PA. Tickets are available now. A three-day badge costs $91, with single-day badges at $43. Sunday is Kids Day, and children under 12 can get a badge for $14.
