For the second year, game developer Riot Games is teaming up with DonorsChoose to match donations for schools. The Riot Games Social Impact Fund will match every dollar donated to gaming projects in schools and classrooms on the DonorsChoose website, up to $200,000.

The program seeks teachers and schools incorporating gaming and eSports into their classrooms.

Teachers can submit their proposals for funding projects at DonorsChoose. Examples include programming software, consoles for an esports club, or computers for game design classes.

Riot is also focused on schools where 50% or more students come from low-income households.

“Our first campaign with DonorsChoose exceeded any expectations that we could have had,” said Jeffrey Burrell, Head of Social Impact, Riot Games. “In 2023, it was the first time DonorsChoose had done a donation matching campaign that focused solely on gaming and esports and it was inspiring to see just how many teachers across the country have a strong desire to incorporate it in their classroom curriculum. By teaming up once again with DonorsChoose, we’re able to continue to expand access to more students who may not realize that gaming and esports can be a meaningful career pursuit.”

Last year’s campaign featured over 500 projects, benefiting 8,883 students and 329 teachers across 304 schools. The 2023 campaign saw an increase of over 100% to gaming related projects on the website.

Riot Games is best known for developing and hosting League of Legends, one of the largest eSports games in the world, as well as numerous spinoff games, such as Valorant.
