Chinese game developer GameScience has released highly-anticipated action-RPG, Black Myth: Wukong on PC ($59.99) and PlayStation 5 ($69.99). And it’s doing absolutely gangbusters on Steam (where we conveniently have public player counts).

Just days after its release, Black Myth: Wukong has rocketed to the top of the Steam sales charts — and the Most Played chart, with over 2 million concurrent players. That’s the most for any single player game, and second all-time Most Played only to Player’s Unknown Battlegrounds. Wow!

Needless to say, it’s also earned an Overwhelming Positive rating on Steam from players. Critics are a little more critical, averaging a score around 81.

Like Elden Ring and many popular Mature, single-player RPGs of late, Black Myth: Wukong is a soulslike action game in a deeply serious, supernatural world.

Players embody the title character, Wukong, an anthropomorphic monkey. But this isn’t Planet of the Apes — this is Journey to the West. It’s a world of temples, caves, forests, and mountains in a mythologized version of Chinese lore.

Sun Wukong wields a magical, size-shifting staff with multiple stances and combos. He also wields magic spells, and the ability to transform into powerful creatures. Which he’ll need to take on equally powerful monstrosities.

Black Myth: Wukong is available on PC (Steam, Epic) and PlayStation 5. in standard and deluxe editions. The Deluxe Edition includes several extra in-game goodies, and the digital soundtrack.

It’s rated M for Mature.
