Indie Japanese studio Maboroshi Artworks have announced a release date for their debut title. Last Time I Saw You will release on PC (Steam), PlayStation, Switch, and Xbox on October 10 ($16.99).

Last Time I Saw You is a coming-of-age adventure that takes place in a small rural town in 1980s Japan. Protagonist Ayumi is haunted by recent dreams, setting off an adventure inspired by the Jebi typhoon that hit Osaka in 2018.

The artwork is handrawn and richly animated like a Studio Ghibli film. The story features a cast of unique characters and creatures inspired by Japanese mythology. While exploring the town and nearby forest, Ayumi meets a large assortment of characters, solves environmental puzzles, completes side quests, and uncovers the secret behind the hauntings.

Though the game has yet to release, it’s already earned some awards, including Visual Excellence from BitSummit in 2022, and it was featured on last year’s Day of the Devs at The Game Awards 2023.

A free demo for Last Time I Saw You is available on Steam, and feature the playable prologue. The demo has recently been updated to feature updated UI and menus, new music, character profiles, and more. Note that progress made in the demo won’t carry over to the full game.

Last Time I Saw You will release October 10. It has not yet been rated by the ESRB.
