Suikoden fans rise up! Indie studio Rabbit & Bear and publisher 505 Games have released  a lengthy gameplay trailer for upcoming indie JRPG, Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes.

And this isn’t just a brief teaser. The new trailer is six minutes long!

Hundred Heroes hit Kickstarter in 2020, ultimately raising over $4.5 million in crowdfunding from over 46,000 backers (including me), becoming the most funded video game of that year.

The story features three main protagonists across an original war-torn world (similar to Suikoden 3): Nowa the warrior, Seign the imperial officer, and Marisa a rune guardian. When fate brings them together, so too must they recruit others to persevere.

The game uses 2D pixel sprites with 3D backgrounds to create a modern yet nostalgic visual style, similar to the 2D-HD look of Octopath Traveler.

An action-RPG prequel, Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising, released in 2022.

Hundred Heroes is heavily influenced by the Suikoden series of the 90s and 2000s (and many developers of the series went on to form Rabbit & Bear). The series features 108 recruitable allies, many of whom can be added to the 6-person party, as well as a home base that’s built up over the course of the story.

The series is beloved for its huge cast of characters, serious storytelling, and cinematic setting.

A remaster of Suikoden 1 and 2 is currently in development. It was originally due to release in 2023, but was delayed.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes will release on April 23, 2024 for PC, Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox. It has not yet been rated by the ESRB.
