Nomad Games and developer Dovetail Games announced the release date for Catan Console Edition. The digital tabletop game will arrive on PlayStation and Xbox on February 28. Those who pre-order (beginning Feb. 3) will gain early access starting on Feb. 23 ($19.99).

Catan Console Edition is a fancy-looking, fully 3D version of the classic 1995 board game, Settlers of Catan. Though the game didn’t receive widespread prominence until a decade (and several editions) later, many credit Catan as a forefather to the golden era of tabletop gaming we still enjoy today.

This digital version will feature singleplayer, local multiplayer, and online multiplayer. AI players were developed with dynamic learning and a variety of strategies, recreating different types of players.

Local multiplayer can sync with smart phones to track your hand of cards without showing them to the other players. Online multiplayer will support cross-platform play between PlayStation and Xbox, and feature a skill-based ranking system.

“Anyone who is familiar with Catan can look forward to how we’ve brought this iconic board game to life,” says Natalie Dodd, producer, Dovetail Games. “We aimed to provide authentic gameplay that fans know and love, while retaining the essence of the board game in our digital iteration. We can’t wait to see Catanians playing from the couch and online. Both new players to the game and Catan fans will really enjoy the immersive experience.”

Catan Console Edition will release in Standard and Deluxe Editions. The Deluxe Edition includes five Catan World Championship board layouts from the official tournament ($24.99).
