During The Game Awards 2022, Bandai Namco and FromSoftware revealed a trailer for Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon. It’s the first new game in the mech combat series in ten years, and it’s set to launch in 2023 on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.

Fires of Rubicon will feature mech combat in large three-dimensional zones, taking full advantage of each mech’s maneuverability and firepower. Fans of FromSoftware’s Souls-like genre should take note, as the press release promises challenging combat, memorable battles, and massive bosses.

Players will be able to assemble their own mechs (called “mecha” in the AC series) from various parts, including head, arms, legs, weapons, and core.

The Armored Core series began in 1997 on the original PlayStation, taking place in a mostly post-human earth far into the future. The series began incorporating multiplayer, which became the focus starting in Armored Core 4. The most recent game in the series, Armored Core 5 released in 2012 on the PS3 and X360, along with a standalone expansion the following year.

The series has been dormant since. To be fair, FromSoftware has been quite busy, mostly recently winning Game of the Year for Elden Ring at the same award show.
