Dungeon Defenders Awakened released last year on PC and Xbox as a mostly disappointing remake of the original action-tower defense classic (read our review). Chromatic Games has announced that it’s coming to Nintendo Switch on August 4, along with a free content update.

The new content is called The Lycan’s Keep. The Lycan’s Keep adds post-story content in the form of four new maps, two new heroes, and a major rework to the item system.

The new heroes are the rogue and the warden. The warden is a reincarnation of Dungeon Defender 2’s dryad class. The nature-themed warrior uses flower-power, along with some exploding mushrooms and packs of wisps to defeat foes. The rogue is a newcomer to the series, an elven warrior who specializes battlefield mobility, stealth, and traps.

The gear update improves inventory management and the strength of gear. Each map now also features hidden pets that can be unlocked and equipped.

“Since launching Dungeon Defenders: Awakened in 2020, we’ve been hard at work bringing the game to new platforms and developing post-launch content for our loyal defenders to enjoy,” said Alec Saare, creative director, Chromatic Games. “With the release of Dungeon Defenders: Awakened on Nintendo Switch alongside The Lycan’s Keep update for PC and Xbox this August, there’s never been a better time to heed the call of adventure and fight across Etheria!”

Dungeon Defenders: Awakened will launch on Switch on August 4, with the Lycan’s Keep update coming on the same day for PC and Xbox, and “soon after launch” on Switch. The game is also due to release on PlayStation 4 (and support for PS5) later this year. The Dungeon Defenders series is rated E10+.
