Earlier this year the highly anticipated sequel The Last of Us Part 2 was delayed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “Indefinitely” is a scary word. Thankfully Sony and Naughty Dog have assuaged our fears with a new confirmed release date: June 19, less than a month from its original May 29 date.

Another anticipated Sony published game, Ghosts of Tsushima, has also been delayed. But this time we’re given a new release date right away: July 17.

“I want to personally congratulate and thank both the teams at Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch Productions on their achievements, as we know it’s not an easy feat to reach the finish line under these circumstances,” wrote Hermen Hulst, Head of Worldwide Studios, Sony Interactive Entertaiment. “Both teams have worked hard to deliver world-class experiences, and we can’t wait to see what you think of them when they release in just a few short months.”

The Last of Us Part 2 continues the story of post-apocalyptic survivors Joel and Ellie. The first game, released in 2013, is a harrowing tale of survival and brutality amidst a world ravaged by fungal zombies. With compelling writing and acting, and a memorable finale, it’s considered one of the best games of the PlayStation 3 era.

Recently huge spoilers have been leaked about the sequel’s story, apparently from a disgruntled employee. The spoilers originally appeared in YouTube videos that have since been taken down. But it’s the internet, and they’re still out there. Naughty Dog has put out a statement urging fans to avoid spoilers.

The Last of Us Part 2 will release June 19 on PlayStation 4. It’s rated M for Mature.
