Epic Games has updated Fortnite with a substantial 3.0 patch, along with the Season 3 Battle Pass for its popular Battle Royale mode.
The Season 3 Battle Pass can be purchased for 950 V-Bucks, which is about $10 (Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode is free-to-play). The Battle Pass includes 100 rewards over 100 tiers which you unlock as you play. The Season 3 Battle Pass includes 30 more items than last season, including several new outfits, pickaxes, and backpacks. Purchasing the Battle Pass instantly unlocks the 1st tier reward, the male astronaut and bonus XP. The 100th reward is a pretty snazzy-looking John Wick knock-off.
Earning all these rewards (valued at 22,000 V-Bucks) ‘typically’ takes between 75 to 150 hours of play. You can also choose to purchase individual tiers for 150 V-Bucks, as well as a Season 3 Battle Bundle, which unlocks your next 25 tiers for 2,800 V-Bucks (about $20).
The 3.0 Patch now defaults to 60 FPS for consoles as well as extensive improvements to the building systems. Hoverboards and hand cannons have been added along with a new musical score for the co-op Save the World mode. Read the full 3.0 patch notes here.
Fortnite’s original co-op tower defense mode, Save the Word, is technically still in paid Early Access and due out this year. Last fall Epic Games released the Battle Royale mode, which quickly became free-to-play. It has since become way more popular than the original tower defense game, gaining millions of players in a matter of weeks.
Fortnite’s Battle Royale is free-to-play, rated T for Teen, and available on consoles as well as PC, giving it a much wider audience than the other gigantic Battle Royale game from last year, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.
Fortnite Season 3 ends April 30.
