We Happy Few has been given an official release date. Compulsion Games has partnered with Gearbox Publishing to expand the game’s scope and release on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on April 13, 2018. The drug-fueled survival game will launch worldwide through digital and retail stores.
“Our team was humbled by the initial public reception to We Happy Few, and delighted to have this chance to make it bigger,” said Guillaume Provost, Studio Head of Compulsion Games. “We’re longtime fans of Borderlands, and we’re excited to be part of a line-up that also includes games like Homeworld and Fortnite. Gearbox believed in us from the very beginning, and we think this partnership will make it possible to create the game that our community expects.”
On launch We Happy Few will include three playable characters, each with their own motivations, strengths, and weaknesses. Over 250 unique encounters can be found while exploring the ’60’s alt-history besieged town of Wellington Wells. Survivors will need to use wits, stealth, crafting, combat, and careful use of the psychotic drug Joy to blend in, evade danger, and uncover secrets.
We Happy Few was initially announced in 2015 and raised funding via Kickstarter. It released via Steam Early Access in Summer 2016 (read our Early Access Preview). By partnering with Gearbox, Compulsion has greatly expanded the game’s gameplay and features, and the price is going to rise from $29.99 to $59.99. Kickstarter backers and Early Access purchasers will still receive the full game when it’s updated to 1.0.
A limited We Happy Few Collector’s Set will be available for $149.99. It includes some physical goodies like the soundtrack on vinyl, an alarm clock, a lamp, and some posters. Oddly it does not included a copy of the actual game, making it more of an incentive to those who already own the game through Early Access.
You can pre-order We Happy Few for a 15% discount at participating retailers, and receive a Jolly Brolly umbrella weapon. Pre-ordering through Microsoft, Steam, GOG, and Humble will also grant access to the Early Access/alpha version.
We Happy Few has been rated M for Mature. It features Blood, Violence, Sexual Themes, and Strong Language. It’s scheduled to release on April 13, 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
